Research and Development Stage
Synopsis - Set against the backdrop of Rajasthan's Shekhawati region, this documentary explores the tension between bahujan folk traditions and the forces of brahmanisation reshaping cultural identity. Through the lens of monsoon rituals-from the arrival of Teej, the red velvet mite that heralds the rains, to the elaborate artistic tributes for snake deity Goga Pir and the Jaati celebrations. As Hindutva ideologies gain prominence, the inclusive traditions where communities of different faiths once worshipped together at shrines like Ramdev Ji Pir are being overshadowed by new symbols and narratives. The documentary presents an intimate portrait of this cultural transformation, questioning what is lost when diverse, centuries-old practices give way to homogenized religious expressions, and offering an alternative representation of Rajasthan's rich spiritual heritage that transcends caste and religious boundaries.
